Why would I?

There is a question I really wish people would ask themselves before they come to me with certain things.

Why would I?

That is it. Genuinely. Before you find yourself wondering why I will not give you money, why I don't invite you anywhere, why I do not promote your business, why I do not go out with you, why I will not take you out, why I will not buy you anything, why I will not go out of my way for you, sit with that question first. Answer it honestly.

Why would I?

Because most people who expect those things have never actually asked themselves that. And the people who do ask themselves that question and still answer it with "because I exist" tell me everything I need to know.

You being present is not a transaction. You wanting something from me is not a reason for me to provide it. The fact that you exist and you have decided you would like something does not create an obligation on my end.

Now if the answer is "because I have shown up for you," "because I have been consistent," "because I have done the same for you" then fair enough. That is reciprocity. That makes sense.

But if the answer is "just because," "because you should," or "because I deserve it" with nothing behind it, then there is your answer.

Why would I?

Nobody is entitled to access to what I have simply because they want it. That is not how I operate. So before you ask me for something, think long and hard about...

Why would I?

If you do not have a proper answer, there it is.
