I don't think i am better

You do not have to think you are better than someone to recognise exactly what they are.

Sometimes telling people the truth about themselves is exhausting because the second you do, they assume it comes from arrogance. As if pointing out someone's behaviour automatically means you believe you are above them.

It does not.

The moment you hold a mirror up to certain people, they stop focusing on what was said and start focusing on who said it.

"Who are you to tell me about myself?"

And just like that, the conversation changes. It is no longer about their behaviour. It is about your motives. Your character gets questioned. Your tone gets criticised. Suddenly you are on trial for the crime of noticing.

It is a convenient tactic. Because if they can make it about you, they never have to deal with the point itself.

You do not need to think you are superior to recognise when someone is selfish, rude, dishonest or just generally unpleasant. A doctor does not need to be healthier than you to diagnose a problem. A mechanic does not need to own a better car than you to tell you the engine is failing.

Observation is not superiority. Accountability is not arrogance.

An unpleasant person does not stop being unpleasant because they are attractive, successful, popular or important. Status does not clean up bad character. It just gives people more reasons to excuse it.

Most people spend so long getting away with their behaviour that the first time somebody names it, it feels like an attack. So they do what is easier. They make you the problem instead.

And it works. People start softening the truth. They apologise for what they noticed. They spend more time managing someone else's feelings about reality than dealing with reality itself.

That is the trap.

An arsehole is still an arsehole. The position they hold does not change it. The money they have does not change it. The fact they do not like hearing it definitely does not change it.

You can dismiss the messenger if you want. The message remains exactly the same.
