Late

By the time you realise who really had love for you, it might be too late. I’ve had it happen. You get caught up in the moment, chasing the people who bring excitement, who make you feel good at that moment and in that excitement, you end up overlooking the ones who have always been there for you.

There’s always that person who cares, who checks in, who wants the best for you but because they’re so consistent, it doesn’t always feel urgent to you, then someone comes along. Someone fun and just like that, you drift away, thinking you’ve found something better.

But excitement fades. The same people you ran to when you wanted to have a good time? The ones who hyped you up and made you feel important? They were never really there for you in the end. It was about what you could offer in the moment. The free labor, your time, the benefits, the convenience and the second you’re no longer useful, you start seeing the changes. You were just a temporary option.

That's when it hits you. The people who were actually there for you, the ones who held you down when you weren’t at your best, the ones who gave without expecting anything back. You pushed them to the side. Assumed they’d always be around. Until they weren’t.
