Support

You ever notice how some friends are always the first ones to ask for free entry, discounts, or VIP treatment? They’re all over you when they want something, but when it’s time to actually support your business, they’re nowhere to be found. It’s a bit mad, isn’t it?

I get it, you want to help your mates out. It’s nice being able to offer them a little perk here and there, but when they’re asking for all the benefits but not putting in any effort themselves, it can feel like you’re being taken for granted. You’re running the show, working hard behind the scenes to make it all happen, and they can’t even be bothered to share a flyer on their story, bring a couple of mates down, or even show up when it’s a big night?

The thing is, it’s not just about the freebies. Running a business isn’t all glitz and glamour; it’s long hours, stress, and constant hustle. Every ticket sold, every person who walks through the door, and every shout-out on social media, it all matters. And when your mates aren’t willing to put in the smallest bit of effort to help, you start wondering if they actually care about what you’re doing, or if they just care about the perks.

Real friends, the ones who really want to see you win, understand the value of what you’re building. They don’t expect things for free, they show their support by hyping you up, tagging you in posts, or even bringing their mates down for a good night. They know it’s not just about getting something out of you, but about showing up for you and what you’ve worked so hard to create.

It’s not that I mind helping people out. I love seeing my friends enjoy what I’ve built. But support needs to go both ways. It’s about balance. If you want to get perks, you’ve got to show you care about the success of the business too. It doesn’t have to be anything massive, just a simple shout-out, reposting a flyer, or turning up with some good vibes. That goes a long way.

So to all the mates who ask for the freebies but don’t show any love back, just think about it. If the roles were reversed, wouldn’t you want your friends to be backing you up, supporting your hustle, and putting in a bit of effort? It’s not just about the money or the discounts, it’s about showing that you’re there for each other. And trust me, those little things make a massive difference.
