Text
Sometimes, me texting doesn’t mean I’m available to pick up a call. I get it. People assume that because I can type a few words, It means I’m free, ready to drop everything for a phone conversation. But that’s not how it works.
I could be on another call, in a meeting, or just surrounded by people and trying to stay polite. I could even be doing something completely mundane, playing a game, listening to music, watching TV, making dinner, and at that exact moment, my brain can’t handle a full-blown phone conversation. Typing is easy, talking on the phone requires effort, focus and attention.
It’s not about avoiding you or ignoring you. It’s about being present in what I’m already doing, and I’m terrible at multitasking. A phone call often requires my full attention. Texting? I can do that in small bursts, in between whatever else is going on.
So next time I reply to your message but don’t pick up the call, don’t take it personally. I’m still here, still responding, still engaged, just not in that moment. I’m doing other things and can’t be on the phone at the same time.
And honestly, that’s fine. Until then, text me.
